Italy second world exporter of organic food behind US

Sales of Italian organic food products on international markets will reach 2.9 billion euros at the end of 2021, recording an 11% growth compared to 2020, in line with the trend of Italian agri-food exports as a whole. Growth in the first half of the year was 10%.
These data come from a direct survey on companies carried out by Nomisma (a company in Bologna specialized in market research) and presented at SANA, the International Exhibition for Organic and Natural Products, which closed on Sunday 12th September.
Organic represents about 6% of total Italian agri-food exports, but as many as 76% of PDO / PGI branded products compared to the total value achieved abroad by these products, and 42% of wine exports. The latter figure is truly impressive and constantly growing.
Italy is confirmed as the second world exporter of organic food in 2021, immediately after the United States.
