One of the most prestigious Italian organic brands, organic farmers since 1978, Alce Nero, is among the members of the International Organization Sin Fronteras which promotes the principles of quality, wholesomeness, and sustainability, through its farmers, involving more than 14 thousand families of producers. Furthermore, Alce Nero is among the members of the Norandino Cooperative, in Peru, from whose suitable lands comes the organic brown sugar that we are examining.
It is a brown sugar, directly extracted from the juice of sugar cane, followed by no further refinement.
Each farmer cultivates a few hectares of land and is responsible for his sugar canes throughout the process: from cultivation to harvest, using organic fertilizers, such as the remains of the sugar cane left in the field to nourish the soil.
Alce Nero’s organic whole brown sugar is characterized by a lower calorie intake than raw sugar. It is characterized by a caramelized flavour, and it quickly sweeten coffee or any other drinks.
The packaging is a warm-shade-plastic bag, with a transparent window to let you appreciate the typical burnt brown colour of the powdered grains.
The package contains 500 grams of product. Once the bag has been opened, it is advisable to store the sugar in airtight containers, since, otherwise, it tends to compact and lose friability. The packaging of this sugar has the Fairtrade’s trademark, which certifies and markets this product.
With brown sugar, Alce Nero scores a deserved 4 on our scale of 1 to 5, so it is reviewed as a great quality product.
From the tropical Peruvian climate, therefore, a whole sugar with a caramelized flavour, guaranteed by an Italian quality brand.

REVIEW. Poor quality products or products of uncertain traceability are not taken into account. Rating from 1 to 5 means: rating 1 when the product has sufficient overall quality; rating 2 when the overall quality is more than sufficient; rating 3 overall good quality; rating 4 overall great quality; rating 5 overall excellent quality. Overall quality refers to the sum of the intrinsic quality factors (organoleptic properties, taste, flavour, wholesomeness) and extrinsic quality factors (guaranteed supply chain, compostable packaging, clarity of the label, other).
