The president of the National Organic Federation FederBio, Maria Grazia Mammuccini launched on the day of the European Organic Day, established by the European Commission and celebrated for the first time this year also in Italy, the cooperation with conventional agriculture, which is necessary – she affirmed – in order to achieve goals that are of interest to both.
“If organic has to reach certain percentages of diffusion in Europe, cooperation is a must. The advantages of cooperation with the conventional method can be reciprocal: if the use of pesticides has to be cut by 50%, organic will be able to help the conventional as well as organic will be able to take over some advanced technologies to improve the way of production, and science will also have the responsibility – why not – to study other methods”, said Mrs. Mammuccini.
This stance is perhaps intended to cause debate in certain Italian organic environments, but it seems an obligatory step in the convulsive phase that involves the debate on European agricultural measures.
