The Vertical Bio investigation had also sullied Suolo e Salute, one of the Italian leading Certification Bodies based in Bologna, as it was responsible of certifying most of the companies involved in the alleged fraud.
The decision of the Court of Pesaro was to acquit all entrepreneurs and companies involved in the case and this has finally meant the end of a nightmare for Suolo e Salute, as the prosecution was affecting the management of the Certification Body for years.
Angelo Costa, President of Suolo e Salute, commented: “We have always had faith in justice. Our story was born from profound ethical motivations and is the legacy of one of the first movements that led to the birth of the Italian organic farming experience. The good name of Italian organic farming and our reputation could not be questioned”.
Alessandro D’Elia, General Director of Suolo e Salute, added: “Thanks to situations like this one, we can learn how to protect better the reputation of Italian organic products in the future. Now that justice has been done and the good name of Italian organic farming has been recognized, there is the need for a greater commitment to ensure a good communication that protects the reputation of Italian organic farming abroad, previously sullied by false accuses over the last 10 years”.
